SCERTS
SCERTS®
The SCERTS® framework is a developmental, relationship-based approach designed to support communication, emotional regulation, and social connection in children with autism spectrum differences and other developmental needs.
SCERTS® stands for:
* Social Communication (SC)
* Emotional Regulation (ER)
* Transactional Support (TS)
Rather than focusing only on isolated skills, SCERTS® looks at the whole child and supports meaningful communication, emotional wellbeing, engagement, independence, and participation within everyday environments.
The framework emphasises:
* Building spontaneous and functional communication
* Supporting emotional regulation and co-regulation
* Developing social connection and interaction skills
* Creating supportive environments across home, school, and community settings
* Collaborating closely with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams
* Respecting neurodiversity and individual differences
SCERTS® can be integrated alongside other evidence-based approaches, including speech and language therapy, PROMPT, sensory regulation strategies, and behavioural support, helping create a holistic and individualised intervention plan for each child.
Our approach focuses on creating meaningful, motivating, and relationship-based experiences that support children in feeling safe, connected, understood, and empowered in their daily lives
