Makaton

Makaton is a communication programme that combines signs, symbols, gestures, and speech to support understanding and expressive communication. It can help children and young people communicate more effectively while reducing frustration and supporting language development.

Makaton provides visual and physical support for spoken language, helping individuals understand key concepts, routines, choices, emotions, and everyday communication. Signs are always used alongside speech to encourage communication growth rather than replace verbal language.
