AAC

AAC

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) includes tools and strategies that
support children who have difficulties using speech to communicate. This may include
communication boards, picture systems, speech-generating devices, apps, signs, or other
visual supports.
AAC helps children express their wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings, while supporting
language development and meaningful interaction. It can be used alongside speech or as an
alternative way to communicate.
We use AAC to support children with:
 Expressing wants and needs
 Developing language and vocabulary
 Social interaction and participation
 Reducing frustration linked to communication difficulties
 Building independence and confidence
 Accessing learning at home and school
Our approach is personalised to each child’s communication needs, strengths, and daily
environments, helping them communicate in the most effective way possible.
