Feeding Therapy

Feeding Therapy

Feeding Therapy supports children and young people who experience difficulties with eating, drinking, chewing, swallowing, food variety, mealtime participation, or oral motor skills. Feeding challenges can affect nutrition, confidence, family routines, emotional wellbeing, and social participation.

Our approach is supportive, neuroaffirming, and individualised. We recognise that feeding difficulties can arise from a combination of sensory, motor, medical, behavioural, communication, and emotional factors. Therapy focuses on creating positive, safe, and successful mealtime experiences while supporting skill development at the child’s pace.

Support may include:

* Expanding food variety
* Reducing anxiety around eating
* Oral motor skill development
* Chewing and swallowing support
* Sensory-based feeding support
* Mealtime routine strategies
* Food exploration and tolerance
* Parent coaching and guidance

We work closely with families and, where needed, collaborate with medical professionals, dietitians, occupational therapists, and speech therapists to ensure holistic and safe support.

Feeding Therapy May Support Children Who:

* Have a highly restricted diet
* Experience sensory sensitivities around food
* Gag, choke, or avoid certain textures
* Struggle with chewing or swallowing
* Experience mealtime anxiety or distress
* Have oral motor difficulties
* Have Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or developmental differences
* Need support transitioning to new foods or textures

Our Feeding Therapy Approach:

We prioritise trust, comfort, and positive relationships around food. Therapy focuses on gradual progress, reducing pressure, and helping children build confidence and success with eating and mealtimes in a supportive environment.
